Embedding Reading Comprehension in Years 2-6

A one-day course where practical strategies for teaching reading comprehension will be explored

This one-day course will –

  • Ensure teachers understand the progression of reading comprehension  within National Curriculum 2014
  • Cover, in detail, the contents of the Reading tests
  • Explore how reading journals can be used to show understanding of text
  • Provide teachers with one high quality children’s book and poem
  • Identify a sequence for teaching readingwhich uses pre-read activities and follow up tasks to maximise time spent on comprehension and understanding of a whole text
  • Explore activities to support Reading for Research and Reading for Pleasure

Participants will receive –

  • one high quality children’s book and a pack of suggested activities for reading journals, follow-up and pre-read tasks, plus record keeping linked to the curriculum
  • two teaching sequences that support the teaching of Reading in a Literacy Tree tote bag
  • all training resources electronically
  • lunch and refreshments
